The new Shanghai-Suzhou-Huzhou Railway is a part of the regional high speed railway passenger transport network and is another external high speed passenger transport corridor in the Yangtze River Delta region in addition to the pre-existing Beijing-Shanghai Railway, Shanghai-Wuhan-Chengdu Railway and Shanghai-Hangzhou-Changsha Railway. This railway, located in the core area of the Yangtze River Delta, starts from Shanghai Hongqiao Station in the east and goes west through Wujiang District, Suzhou City, Jiangsu Province, and ends in Huzhou City, Zhejiang Province. The new line will be 163.5 kilometers long and will be built at 350 kilometers per hour. The feasibility study report was approved in October 2018. Now, its preliminary design is under way.
